Your Weekend Prayers – Words of Grace – September 12, 2021

Dear Congregation,

It’s been a while since I used this Words of Grace space to call us to a weekend of prayer. Today is a great day to return to this theme.

This weekend, let’s pray for Grace Community Church.

Let’s pray for the word of Christ to richly dwell among us through the Gospel of John. “Faith comes by hearing the word of Christ” (Romans 10:17). Faith is generated by the Holy Spirit in the hearts of people when they hear the gospel. Let’s pray for this!

Let’s pray the Lord will use these times of disruption and disorientation to lead us into greater levels of holiness. “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28). Deeper faith, holy character, and genuine love are built through the discipline of trials. Let’s pray for this.

Let’s pray for the people of Grace, who are able, to return to church attendance and connection with others for mutual discipleship. “Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works” (Hebrews 10:24). Good things happen when brothers and sisters show up. Let’s pray for this.

Let’s pray for people who are suffering and struggling in life to know the love of God, the hope of Christ, and the comfort of the Holy Spirit. “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2). Burden bearing shows God’s love to others. Let’s pray for this.

Let’s pray for eyes to see the mission of Christ and faith to be his faithful servants in the world. “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest’” (Matthew 9:36-38). When we see with the eyes of Christ, his mission becomes ours. Let’s pray for this.

Let’s pray for the hope of resurrection to stir our hearts to be, “steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord” (1 Corinthians 15:58).

As you finish reading these prayer requests, you may be tempted to hit delete and move on. Instead, how about taking 15 minutes to read through these passages and pray for our congregation this weekend.

I look forward to worshiping with you Sunday.
